Black Rain is a 1989 American action-thriller film starring Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Ken Takakura, Kate Capshaw and Yusaku Matsuda. The film was directed by Ridley Scott.

The story is centered on two New York City police officers who arrest a member of the Japanese Yakuza and must escort him back to Japan. Once there, he escapes, and the two police officers find themselves dragged deeper and deeper into the Japanese underworld. This film illustrates the stereotypes of American and Japanese cops and gangsters. The film was nominated for Oscars in Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing.

Plot

Nick Conklin (Michael Douglas) is a skilled motorcyclist and a tough veteran New York City police officer facing possible criminal charges; Internal Affairs believes Nick might have been involved with his partner who was caught in a corruption scandal. Nick is divorced from his wife, who has custody of their two children, and he has money problems because of this.

While having a drink at a local Italian restaurant/bar, Nick and his partner Charlie Vincent (Andy Garcia) observe a group of Japanese having what appears to be a friendly lunch with some Italian gangsters. Nick is increasingly suspicious of the group until another Japanese man enters the restaurant with several armed henchmen and seizes a small package at gunpoint from the leader of the Japanese group. As the man turns to leave, one of the Japanese men at the table says something he finds insulting and he slashes the man’s throat, stabs another in the chest, and then walks out. Nick and Charlie follow immediately and, after a short chase, arrest the suspect after he nearly kills Nick.

The suspect turns out to be a Yakuza gangster by the name of Sato (Yusaku Matsuda). The situation is further complicated when Nick superior officer, Captain Oliver (John Spencer), tells him that Sato is to be extradited to Osaka and given to the police there. Nick is angry that Sato will not be tried for murder in the United States, but agrees to escort him to Japan. Nick captain also has an ulterior motive for sending Nick overseas, thinking it will keep Nick from causing more trouble and exacerbating the already biased Internal Affairs investigation of him.

When they arrive in Osaka, men identifying themselves as Japanese police immediately meet them on the plane, display a “transfer document” written in Japanese which turns out to be an insurance policy, and take Sato into their custody, leaving the plane by the rear exit. As Nick and Charlie are about to get off the plane themselves, another group of police enter from the front and identify themselves in English, indicating that the first “cops” were imposters.

Nick and Charlie are taken to the headquarters of the Osaka Prefecture of Police and questioned. They are also blamed for Sato escape. After much haranguing by Nick (who shows signs of xenophobia) towards the Japanese, who mostly refuse to acknowledge that they can speak English, he and Charlie are allowed to bserve the hunt for Sato. However, the senior police officer emphasises that they have no authority in Japan and are forbidden to carry their guns.

They are assigned to Masahiro Matsumoto, a mild-mannered and experienced officer, who will be their guide.

During the investigation Nick breaches protocol several times, offending Matsumoto. He also makes contact with an American blond nightclub hostess, Joyce (Kate Capshaw), who explain that the Japanese public, including the giggling hostesses in the club, all believe that Nick and Charlie are jokes because they allowed Sato to easily fool them and escape from custody, and represent American inefficiency and stupidity. Through her, Nick discovers that Sato is fighting a gang war with a notorious crime boss, Sugai (Tomisaburo Wakayama). Sato used to be an enforcer for Sugai and now wants his own territory to rule. Sato had traveled to New York to disrupt a meeting with American Italian gangsters about a counterfeiting scheme being set up by Sugai.

Late one night, Nick and Charlie walk back to their hotel slightly drunk and unescorted, despite several previous warnings about their safety from Matsumoto. They are harassed by a young punk on a motorcycle, and it seems to be a joke until the…(and so on) To get More information , you can visit some products about hot roll steel, solenoid valve coil, . Film industry is an amalgamation of technological and commercial institutions of filmmaking. It generally consists of film production companies, film studios, cinematography, film production, screenwriting, pre-production, post production, film festivals, actors, directors and film personnel.

Today the film industry is spread all around the world. In the present century the major business centers of filmmaking are concentrated in the United States, India and China. Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles, California, that is situated in west- northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Due to its fame and the cultural individuality of movie studios and movie stars, the word Hollywood is often used as a metaphor for the cinema of the United States which is popularly known as Hollywood film industry.

The history of Hollywood film industry probably started in the hands of D.W. Griffith when the Biograph Company sent him and his crew. They started filming on a vacant lot in downtown Los Angeles in early 1910. Soon the company explored new territories to find that the region was quite friendly and very ideal for shooting. So, Griffith then filmed the first ever movie shot in Hollywood, titled In Old California. The movie company then stayed there for some months to shoot several of their films and then returned to New York.

Starting in 1913, this wonderful place came into the limelight when moviemakers started heading there. Thus Hollywood film industry took birth. The first feature film made in Hollywood was called The Squaw Man. Nestor Studio, founded in 1911, was the first movie studio in Hollywood. Fifteen other small studios also were established in Hollywood. Gradually Hollywood came to be so powerfully associated with the film industry that this term began to be used as a synonym for the entire industry.

During the First World War Hollywood became the movie capital of the world. By the year 1950, music recording studios and offices began moving to Hollywood, though much of the movie industry had already been moved there.

The world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame was constructed in the year 1958 and the first star was placed in 1960. The Walk of Fame was placed as a tribute to the artists working in the entertainment industry. It is embedded with more than 2,000 five pointed stars featuring the names of not only celebrities, but also fictional characters. Self financing Hollywood Historic Trust maintains this Walk of Fame. The first star to receive this honor was Joanne Woodward. An artist receives a star based on career and lifetime achievements in motion pictures, live theatres, radio, television, and music.

The famous Hollywood sign which originally read Hollywoodland, was constructed in the year 1923 as an advertisement of a new housing development. The sign was left to disuse until in 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce repaired and removed the last four letters. The sign, now located at Mount Lee, is now a registered trademark and hence cannot be used without the permission of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Hollywood film industry can be called the Mecca of film industries. Though geographically it is located in Hollywood, it resides in the hearts of millions of film lovers and film related persons. The Hollywood remains and will remain a king, without a scepter.

Jason Forthofer asked:

Boxing is a combat sport of English origin in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called rounds. Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). If there is no stoppage of the fight before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee’s decision or by judges’ scorecards.

In the passage above boxing is explained as two people fighting of similar weight, however rarely of similar backgrounds. In ancient times gladiators were pited against each other to fight to their deaths for entertainment. A gladiator was often the underdog fighting for survival against a superior force.

On the big screen boxing movies have become more successful than any other sports related film. Boxing movies such as Rocky and million Dollar Baby are the only sports related films to win Acadamey Awards for Best Picture.

Directors of boxing movies have the great ability of creating characters with so much in common with the audience. Characters who come from disadvantage backgrounds that are used to scrapping for food and money to support families and loved ones, thus when it comes to fighting for survival in a boxing ring they have what it takes to win.

However they never have the guidance or confidence to realize their full potential. This is where directors creates a kind, lovable, knowledgeable character who acts as a father figure and mentor. The audience is then taken on a journey of these two characters quest for glory which involves some of the following, heartbreak, struggle, sacrifice and belief.

In any sport no matter what it is people will be drawn naturally to the underdog and cheer for them. People don’t like favorites winning unless of course they have the favorite backed! This is where directors create another character one that the audience dislikes, rude, arrogant, cocky etc.. who is at the top of the sport.

These two rivals are finally pitted against each other, in one corner you have a fighter that everyone hates and in the other corner a fighter whom everyone has come to love and admire.

Audiences like happy endings they are brought up with the stories of Snow white, Cinderella etc.. they want to exit the cinema happier than they entered. They want the underdog to win because they know how it feels to be an underdog.

The audience admires a character with pride strength and courage. Great Directors are aware of this knowing what the audience desires and gives it to them.

Boxing movies work because everyone loves a good underdog story!

In Hollywood, it’s nice to see a movie star who doesn’t feel the need to embrace every short-lived trend on the red carpet. Instead, Anne Hathaway is making a name for herself as a talented movie star and a fashion force to be reckoned with. She has a unique and uncanny style that is chic, classic and timeless. Her choices of evening gowns, casual wear and travel outfits are always complimented with just the right amount of sparkle. Anne’s jewelry style is one that can easily be imitated and is versatile enough to be worn with classic pieces from any closet.

When Anne stepped on the scene a few years ago, her style started people talking. She tends to opt for pieces that look effortless, and she knows what works on her. For movie premieres, Anne looks the part in chiffon and jersey gowns accented with romantic jewelry. She’s been seen pairing a vintage art deco brooch with modern floral stud earrings for a scene-stealing style. For another event, she donned sparkly wing drop earrings with a simple suit.

Casually, Ms. Hathaway is still on her toes when seen out and about on either coast. She adds splashes of color to outfits of neutral tones and blacks. A simple corded bracelet, pair of hoop earrings or chunky ring is just enough to show that she takes an active interest in each outfit she puts together. It’s never over the top jewelry, instead, it’s pieces that are versatile and age appropriate.

For appearances, Anne opts for a statement piece, like the wing and heart pendant necklace she wore on a recent talk show. The edgy piece played a nice contrast to her feminine dress. It’s nice to see someone like Anne who always look classy and pulled together. Her jewelry style is one that we’ll continue to watch and only try to imitate.

To anyone who is interested in Leonard Nimoy trivia, there is another name which is almost as commonly associated with the face of this man as his own – that name is of course Mr. Spock, the character that Nimoy portrayed in the popular 1960’s television show, Star Trek. Even though Star Trek was only on the air for a few years, a much shorter time than many of today’s more popular television shows, the characters that were created in that short time have gone on to become among the most popular in American today. That original show spawned several other television programs including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, and of course nine feature films, including several in which Nimoy would reprise his character of Spock.

Any Leonard Nimoy quiz is going to be mostly filled with questions about his portrayal of the half vulcan half human Spock, and so we will be sure to give that its due regard here. Did you know that the original show only ran for 80 episodes? While this was the origination of the character of Mr. Spock, Nimoy would continue to play the character several other times over the years, right up until today. He played the character in the Star Trek films I-VI, as well as also reprising the role again in the most recent film “Star Trek” released in 2009.

Did you know that in addition to playing Mr. Spock on so many different occasions, Nimoy was also the director of a few of the Star Trek films? This is a little piece of Leonard Nimoy trivia that many who can only identify with him as his character are totally unaware of. He directed both Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home – which was, until the release of the new movie the most successful of any of the movies in the Star Trek franchise. His only other significant hit as a director was “Three Men and  Baby” which was actually the highest grossing film the year of its release.

Did you know that Leonard Nimoy has also enjoyed considerable success in several other artistic arenas? He has released several recording albums, has published books of his photography, is a writer, including two autobiographies offering viewpoints of his reconciliation between himself and the character he is so famous for portraying, as well as being a published poet.
