The North African country of Tunisia really could be classed as out of this world; the dune riddled nation provided the setting for the fictional planet Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s desert home planet, that played a major role in several of the Star Wars movies.

Tunisia’s sparsely populated land and dusty geography provided the perfect location to create Tatooine’s dune seas, expansive desert wastes and rocky outcrop, and fans of the Star Wars books and films continue to make the pilgrimage to Tunisia to visit this iconic setting. Nowadays you’re likely to find the locals a little more friendly than the fictional Jawas, the pygmy-like scavengers of technology, or the hostile Sand people (also known as Tuscan Raiders) with whom Luke has a nasty run in with during the ‘first’ film, Star Wars - A New Hope.

Luke Skywaker’s home was filmed in a subsoil abode in the real troglodyte town of Matmata. Here, residents make their homes by burrowing into the soft sandstone and visitors can still see some of the murals and set dressing of the Skywalker’s homestead from the movie at the Sidi Driss Hotel, in Matmata.

The outside of the dwelling, where Luke observes the two suns, is part a dry, white salt flat called Chott el Jerid, that stretches across central Tunisia to the oasis of Tozeur and Nefta. The Dune Sea - the vast expanse of sand in which C3PO and R2D2 wander aimlessly is known as La Grande Dune, and the gully in which they are captured by the Jawas, is east of Tozeur at the Chott el Jerid.

The spaceport town of Mos Eisley, which was described by Obi-Wan Kenobi as a “wretched hive of scum and villainy” and is a hang out for intergalactic smugglers and others from the space criminal underworld, is in actual fact Aijim - a sponge fishing town near the lle de Jerba. And if you’d want to see where Jedi knight Obi-Wan’s remote home was located, you’ll find it to the north of Aijim, overlooking the Gulf of Gabes.

Unless you can hitch a ride with Han Solo and Chewbacca on the Millennium Falcon, you’ll probably have to find an alternative form of transport. Thankfully, although Tatooine was in a galaxy far, far away, Tunisia isn’t; and Star Wars Fans will be pleased to hear that the country is surprisingly well served from the UK; there are plenty of cheap flights to Tunisia from airports around Britain.

Other destinations that are part of the Star Wars pilgrimage include: Tikal in Guatemala, which played the Massassi Outpost - the rebel base on the fourth moon of Yavin; the Palazzo Reale near Naples Italy, which played host to Theed Palace on Naboo from the Phantom Menace, and Krabi Province, Thailand which provides the setting to Kashyyyk - the Wookie homeworld.

So, grab your light sabre, don your Darth Vader mask and use the force to follow the Star Wars pilgrimage around the world.

Vicki Churchill asked:

Since movies were first screened cars has featured heavily in them. The Movie Bullitt released in 1968 starring Steve McQueen although probably not the first movie to feature a car chase was undoubtedly one of the original car movies of all time.

Audiences were stunned by the intense and dramatic footage of a Ford Mustang and Dodge Viper screaming through the streets of downtown San Francisco.

Many movies have featured dramatic car chase scenes. In 1971 The French Connection, a thriller about two NYC cops in the narcotics bureau starred Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider. The film featured a thrilling car chase through busy streets of which the film is ultimately remembered for.

You would be mistaken to think the only reason cars would ever feature in movies would be for the sole purpose of an exciting chase. You would of course be wrong as many films have not only included cars in them but the car itself has been the main star.

In 1964 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a book by Ian Fleming was first published. The book was later made into classic movie with **** Van **** in the lead role but of course the real star of the movie was the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The movie was essentially for children but it is one of those films that are entertaining for the whole family.

In 1969 we saw three Mini’s weaving through the traffic jammed streets of Turin in the fabulous The Italian Job starring Michael Caine. The red white and blue Mini’s were without doubt the stars of the movie which was later remade in 2003 and starred Mark Wahlberg.

In 1983 John Carpenters Christine was released. This was a story of a possessed regenerating car hell bent on killing. Arnie Cunningham played by Keith Gordon finds a Plymouth Fury in need of restoration. As Arnie rebuilds Christine he begins to change himself transforming from shy and nerdy to over confident and arrogant.

Possibly one of the most enduring and lovable of all cars in the movies is Herbie. Sporting the number 53 Herbie a Volkswagen Beetle has made five movies dating back to 1969 with his latest outing recently in 2005 starring Lindsay Lohan. The comical exploits of Herbie have won many peoples hearts with the main plot lines being David and Goliath natured.

Today cars in movies are still big box office draws. Pixar have recently released a movie witch features only cars in the line up. The animated adventures of Lightning McQueen voiced by Owen Wilson are hilarious and not too be missed.

Whilst we still drive cars in our lives there is no doubt they will be in our movies for years to come.

All movie asked:

Movie posters generally can serve two purposes after their days as in-theater displays are over. One, they can be valuable collectibles, no different than baseball cards, stamps or comic books. And just as with those widely collected items, a poster’s condition has much to do with its value. And two, they make spectacular wall hangings, and can add a dash of style and pizzazz to your game room, office or den. (When used only as décor, and not considered an investment, reprinted film advertisements are probably sufficient.)

No matter which group you fall into, knowing the difference between a collectible movie poster and a reprint is important. After all, if you’re hoping to attain an item that will increase in value, it must be an original print. If, on the other hand, you only want to spruce up your off-campus apartment, there’s no sense spending money on a pricier collectible when an equally attractive reprint would fit the bill.

What makes a film print collectible? How is the quality of a print determined? How can I preserve a collectible once I’ve obtained one? If you are new to the collecting game, you likely have many questions that you need answered before you make your first purchase. Below, you’ll find a few tips to help get your collection started on the right foot.

Original vs. Reprint: Learning the difference

To determine whether something is considered collectible movie art, you must know the answer to two key questions: Was it produced, printed and distributed by a movie studio solely for the purpose of in-theater advertising? Was it originally intended for use only as a movie advertisement and not as an item meant for public consumption? If you can answer “yes” to both of those questions, you’re likely dealing with a movie poster that has value.

Certainly other factors come into play (and we’ll address some of them shortly) but the basic criteria have been met. Movie art materials that have value are created for studios by a select group of lithographers, sent to theaters as advertising materials, and later either returned to the studio or destroyed. They aren’t printed in huge numbers with the goal of being sold to the public later. In fact, the print run of each movie poster is limited to only what is necessary for theaters and distribution centers and later returned for credit. Because of this, there are fewer in circulation, which in turn is what makes them more valuable.

Making the Grade: Understanding what a print is worth

Grading systems used to determine the value of movie poster art are similar to grading systems used for other collectibles. Rips, bent corners, faded colors, staple holes or pinholes, and any other blemishes will detract from its market value. Most collectors will use standards set by the Motion Picture Arts Gallery to help figure a print’s value. Ranging from “Near Mint” to “Fair”, the value of a print can be wide-ranging.

Prints graded in “Near Mint” condition were hardly ever used, if at all, boasting colors that are still vibrant and no mars of any kind. The MPAG scale declines as far down as “Fair”, which describes posters that show signs of wear, perhaps are ripping at the folds, and could have damaged borders. Even prints in this condition have value - the poster is still rare after all - but the market will knock points from its worth.

Of course, even after the condition of a print is ascertained, estimating its value requires additional legwork. You can’t simply rely on a dealer’s word as to its worth. Conduct extensive research to determine how film prints for the same movie and of like condition are being valued. And remember, the more rare a piece, the more valuable it becomes, so if you have a difficult time locating artwork of a particular film, that’s a good sign that its value might be higher.

Quality Control: Preserving your investment

No matter how great an investment you make in a movie poster, it won’t be a sound investment if you don’t care for the item. Preserving the quality of the paper is critical, but it isn’t difficult to do with some basic instruction. One of the most preferred materials used to preserve valuable documents is uncoated polyester film. DuPont’s Mylar D and ICI Corp’s Melinex 516 are two of the most popular brands. By sealing the movie posters, these products will protect your investment from the paper-destroying effects of moisture, pollutants, oils and acids.

Other preservation methods, less popular because they render the movie posters less usable, include using acid-free boards and boxes. Many collectors also have their posters professionally deacidified before storage to add additional years of life.

Size matters: Understanding the shapes and sizes

While the term “movie poster” is generically used to refer to any marketing materials used to advertise a film, actual studio-released work typically comes from a catalog of certain sizes. Below are the names of the most common sizes and where you’re likely to first see each advertisement.

1 Sheet: 27” x 41” (27” x 40” after 1980); most often seen in theater lobbies and in display cases in and around theaters (i.e.: bus stations, train stations…)

2 Sheet / Subway: 41” x 54”; used in subway stations

3 Sheet: 41” x 81”; used as large lobby displays

6 Sheet: 81” x 81”; used as small billboards

12 Sheet: 108” x 144”; used as medium billboards; very seldom used with new releases today

24 Sheet: 108” x 246”’ used as large billboards

30 Sheet: 118” x 265” used as large billboards

Smallville star Allison Mack recently took a short break to cater to her other artistic skills such as film making. The young actress who plays Chloe Sullivan on Smallville took some time off to star in a short film entitled Alice and Huck, which was written by R.W. Gray and directed by Kaleena Kiff, two of Mack’s best friends. The film is a labor of love, as she hopes to raise money to complete post-production work in time to sent it to various film festivals around the country. Fans probably couldn’t wait to see Mack in the upcoming short, so a teaser clip has been released online.

AllisonMack.com describes the movie as “a short film that explores desire and missed connections in a universe where it’s possible to try and try again.”

Moreover, Mack recently talked about the joy of making the film in a post on her official website. She wrote, “It felt so good to be a part of a project from its inception, to be a part of creating something from start to finish and really feel like I was a part of the whole process. I can’t tell you all how incredibly fulfilling this was. I so encourage all of you to be a part of something like this at some point in your life. Find the thing that you love doing, the thing that you feel the most inspired and excited by… And do it!”

“It was the most amazing experience I have had in a very long time! To be a part of a team of people doing what they love only because they love it was so inspiring and exciting!” Mack said.

As a fund-raiser, Mack is selling Alice & Huck promotional items such as t-shirts which cost $25, and a sponsorship package worth $500. Currently, they have raised $4529.03, just another $3000 short of her $7500 goal. For more details about the film and to get an insight on Mack’s current projects, log on to AllisonMack.com.

Simon J. Michael asked:

LESSON #1 - Intrigue!

A movie must deliver a lot - people want the drama, the thrill of the ride, the love interest, the mystery to solve, and some comedy thrown in to boot! That’s a tall order to fill! But if your script can seamlessly integrate all of the above you’ve got a hit on your hands!

Now the romance doesn’t have to be full blown just indicated as an attraction between two people. Star Trek did an excellent job of this between Spock and Uhura.

LESSON #2 - Characters Who We Care About

They brought to life characters!

What makes a character worth watching?

1. They are consistent - they consistently have the same reactions.

2. The way the characters interact with each other is what makes us want to watch.

One way to create a character we care about is by having him experience some form of suffering - because pretty much every person has had some type of suffering  in his/her life and in a sense can relate to his story even though they’ve never fought in a galactic battle or lost a father the way Capt. Kirk has. It’s the emotional storyline that captures the audience.

LESSON #3 - Respects the Audience

The writers creatively came up with a solution by making the story occur in an alternate timeline. Proof that simple is the way to go.

This movie doesn’t talk down to the audience - it respects our need for logic. The alternate timeline means that anything that happens here that didn’t or couldn’t happen in previous episodes/movies of Star Trek can be done here! What a fantastic approach to make it work for us! It’s a great way to handle what definitely would have been a daunting task.

LESSON #4 - Survival Plot

We identify with suffering in general and especially survival as these are common experiences for most people. Do you know why your movie should be a survival plot?

Let me start by citing the evidence:

Out of the Top Grossing Movies 35 are survival plots! and the top ten movies on IMDB are all movies on survival.

Because so many top movies are about survival it stands to reason if you write a movie based on survival you have a chance for it to succeed in the box office.

LESSON #5 - Traceable Hero

The audience has to easily be able to identify which character is the hero of the story, what he wants (his motivation), the problem the hero must face, and how he overcomes the problem. If we can follow the hero this means there is a clear sense of continuity in the script.

LESSON #6 - Emotional Storyline Incites that Action and Drives the Plot Forward

Each character has to have something he/she desires. This desire is connected to something which has an emotional meaning to them. This desire is called the B Storyline and it is what creates the actions the character chooses to take - the A Story Action line.

The reason the hero is tossed out of his familiar life must be connected to the emotional line (B Story Line). The predicament the hero ends up in stems from his inherent problem, the thing he has to face in his life that he has not yet faced until this point. It’s quite clear that for the Hero, Kirk, it’s facing his past.

For Spock it’s obviously the loss of his home planet, Vulcan, it’s people and more specifically heart wrenching for him is the loss of his mother.

Both Vale and Truby discuss this. Truby, author of The Anatomy of Story: 22 Steps to Becoming a Master Storyteller says “One of the most important blockbuster elements is what I call the ‘double track line.’ Hit films always have a character line and an action line, or, to put it another way, a personal story and a case to be solved.”

LESSON #7 - Animosity is necessary between the Hero and the Bonding Character

Think of it this way - you’ve got more than one person jockying to be heard. Each has his own view on how things should be done and it can’t be identical - you miss a whole level of tension if you eliminate this!

If you compare any big movies you’ll see animosity exists between these characters:

Kirk vs. Spock

Luke vs. Hans Solo

Wolverine vs. Cyclops

There’s a great moment in the movie when Young Spock is confused and appalled when he realizes his older self not only feels a great camaraderie with his adversary but that somehow Capt. Kirk has rubbed off on him changing how he handles things! He never would have expected himself to cheat (not tell Kirk the truth that he could meet himself and it wouldn’t cause a paradox). Because cheating is the major reason why young Spock disliked Kirk in the first place. It’s these moments that makes the relationship between the characters sparkle.

LESSON #8 - Characters are Contrasted

Kirk vs. Spock!!!!! Each one is so different it makes the other stand out. Contrast helps give a clear picture of what each character stands for.

LESSON #9 - The Characters Get to Practice Before They Engage in a Life or Death Battle

The “team” gets to practice before the big threat! Important element! This happens in Star Wars where Luke has his training with Yoda. It also happens in Lord of the Rings where the Hobbits practice their sword skills. And it obviously happens in Star Trek where we see Dr. Mccoy learning how to practice medicine on Kirk, and of course the big scene where Kirk cheats on the test Spock designed.

LESSON #10 - An Incident Forces them to Act Before They Are Ready

We got to see the dire straits these fresh, still in training, young people had to face. They were thrown into positions of responsibility and they assumed them because basically they had to if they wanted to survive

They were called upon to fulfill their duty before the expected time because of an inciting incident.

LESSON #11 - The Characters Demonstrate Intelligence

Eugene Vale, who wrote an excellent book for screenwriters called “The Technique of Screenplay Writing” in which he discusses how as an audience we have an intellectual need - it’s a craving we have from movies but hardly ever get satisfied. We usually get people in the movies telling us the entire backstory or how some scientific concept works as if we’re not intelligent enough to figure it out ourselves.

It was great to see the main characters come up with ideas and solutions some which worked and some which did not work.

And we got to see them put those ideas into action.

LESSON #12 - Moral Decisions to be Made

Write this part still*

LESSON #13 - Humor Through Characters and Situations

How do you know something is funny? Every time you think about it it makes you laugh again.

As a writer you get to determine the sense of humor for each chara: funny, playful, sarcastic, etc. We see this humor in Dr. McCoy’s character.

Humor isn’t an afterthought you try and squeeze into your script. It is something that will develop out of your characters’ sense of humor. Here’s where you step outside of yourself for inspiration and look to those you surround yourself with - friends, family, interesting people you meet, etc. Your characters will have a sense of humor that is not like yours. They will say something funny that makes you laugh and you know that’s not something you’d say or think of. It’s pretty interesting to see your characters take off like this. Sometimes you’ll be able to pinpoint the influence of your character’s sense of humor - “Hey my friend would have made a joke like that!”

Humor - one time everyone in the theater simultaneously laughed in unison - it was when the voice recognition software didn’t recognize the Russian Guy’s command because of his accent. It was clear that the reason everyone laughed was because each of them has had a frustrating experience with voice recognition. In fact on the way to the movie theater I didn’t know the address so I called a toll free directory to get it and the damn machine couldn’t understand what I was saying. After four attempts I finally hung up and went to a different theater. It’s the universal experience that strikes a cord with the audience.

Funny: when spock says It’d be self-serving to say to his younger self “Live long and prosper.”

LESSON #14 - Life or Death Time Crunch

They didn’t have the luxury of time to sit around and contemplate - they had to move now as it was a life or death situation not only for themselves but for their civilization which would be destroyed if they failed.

LESSON #15 - Theme!

Spock’s intimate moments with each of his parents. The writers took excellent advantage of this opportunity for getting across the theme of the movie (the message that’s important to them that they want us to learn).

LESSON #16 - Keep Audience Engaged By Not Answering All their

Not knowing what’s happening.

ex. we knew the bad guy is out to get Spock but we didn’t know why - and this intrigued us.

As a writer it’s your job to dole the information out a little at a time.

LESSON #17 - Unexpected Twists

Example: The Hero doesn’t get the affection of his love interest. And we definitely don’t expect old Spock to be waiting in a cave for young Kirk at that moment. Fun!

LESSON #18 - The Audience Has to Believe for Moment the Hero is Going to Fail!

It was a little over the top when the villain, Captain Nero, blatantly says I’d rather face a harsh death than accept your help - pa-lease - and even though kirk offered to help it seems a shade unbelievable as kirk couldn’t possibly extend such help when he can barely save his own *** from being ****** into the black hole! I can see why the writer/direct put this into the movie though because it serves to give us a moment where the ROLES ARE REVERSED suddenly kirk is the moral one and Spock still pissed about his mother’s murder is revengeful and says that he wouldn’t have extended a helping hand to the villain.

When they were just sitting around at the edge of the black hole for no apparent reason I was “like what are they doing? This black hole is going to **** up anything in the nearby vicinity haul your ***** out of their you morons!” Then they start shooting at the damn ship that’s being ****** into the black hole - pretty silly. Unfortunately I felt this was all at the expensive of the credibility on the part of Capt. Kirk’s character. Somehow in a dazed state he was able to piece together from a phrase he heard through the loudspeaker that the Romulans have used the Vulcans to plant a trap for the starfleet yet suddenly he can’t spot the imminent and must I say OBVIOUS threat of a black hole EVEN though old Spock just finished telling him how he himself got ****** into a black hole!

Of course then you get to see them scramble to safety and there’s a moment where you think **** they’re not going to make it (which of course is why it was left in - that’s a point that a movie must nail). But our rational mind tells us of course they make it or there wouldn’t have been any future stories for these characters which have already been written and viewed!

LESSON #19 - Hero Saves the Day!

Save the day - you feel like you’re there with them - that’s something many movies fail to provide and it’s such a necessary element that the movie-goer seeks! These were the moments in the film when I wanted to belt out “Whoooo!!!”

LESSON #20 - Characters Learn Something From Each Other

Characters learn something from each other even though they don’t want to admit to it because they are adversaries.

For example, Spock doesn’t want to admit he learned anything from Kirk - but in the end he asks for permission to board the ship as his first mate and says he can provide references - hilarious! Because obviously the best reference he could have given was his older self speaking to young Capt. Kirk about their friendship in the future.

So there you have it 20 lessons Star Trek taught us about how to write a blockbuster movie! Right now I’m writing a book called “7 Steps to Create a Marketable Script” and you can see for yourself how these seven steps work by testing these steps with any blockbuster hit. And check out my article on my website of how I use Star Trek 2009 to illustrate how the seven steps work.

My first choice to discuss here is the movie-‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’. This movie has a good star cast including Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. This is the last one of the trilogy series and it revolves around saving Jack Sparrow, organizing a pirate counsel and the final battle against the East India Trading Company and Davie Johns. This blockbuster movie has everything to entertain the fans of the first two pirate movies. The visual effects, acting and overall picturisation has made it a good and must watch movie. It can be a nice addition to your DVD collection.

‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ comes second in our list of DVD movies that has to be collected for this festive season. This is also a final movie in a trilogy series. In this movie, matt Damon plays the role of Jason Bourne who realizes himself in great trouble related to his past and starts in search of certain answers. In the search, he gets caught in the middle of a state-sponsored murder plot, which becomes a big problem for him. The interesting screen-by-screen events are a must watch.

‘Superbad’ needs your attention as the third best movie that has to be placed in your collection of DVD movies. For, this movie can entertain adults through the entire holidays. The movie revolves around two best friends who have to separate from each other after finishing high school and to enter different colleges. They like to have a last party before going away. But, they are not the kind of smart to get the booze for the party and make them look cool. This has become one of the best comedy movies and a nice one to pick for entertainment. You better get this DVD to have full fun this time and you will surely know the reason behind people saying that ‘McLovin rules’.

You can watch many free movies on the Internet. You don’t have money, but you need entertainment. Then you better turn onto the Internet where you can find number of websites that offer free movies to entertain people. It is a great fun to watch some of our favorite movies for free. You can get to see a number of movies that you have not seen in the past due to lack of money and entertain yourself in a good way.

But, if you want Hollywood movies, you need to realize the fact that only few websites offer Hollywood movies that are old and do not come under the protection of copyright laws. Also, these kinds of movies are a bit older ones. So, if you want full entertainment, you better get new DVD movies that are entering the market to make your moments filled with joy.
