Bernadette Dimitrov asked:

While Christmas is the most universally recognized holiday in the world. It has become a celebrated affair of magic, myth and religion. Most of the Christmas festivities that we know today actually sprang from pre-Christian festivals that had been celebrated for centuries. The birth of the sun celebrated on the 25th December was replaced with the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on this day. For Christians “Christ” was the new “Sun” the “Son of God” the new “light of the world”.

While there are approximately 2.1 billion Christians in a total world population of 6.6 billion, making it the largest religion worldwide, there are many other cultures and religions holding sacred celebrations during December today. Here are some of the most celebrated festivals:

· Jewish people commemorate Hanukkah (the Hebrew word for “dedication”). This feast is also referred to as “Feast of Dedication” or “Feast of Lights”. It is an eight day festival which commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Jews reclaimed and rededicated their temple in 165 B.C. after a victory which drove the Syrian army out of Jerusalem. A primary ritual during this time is to light a single light each night for eight nights and the number of lights lit is increased by one each night. The extra light lit each night is called a “shamash” meaning “guard” or “servant” and is given a distinct location, usually higher or lower than the others. Special blessings are recited over the lights each night. There are approximately 14 million Jews worldwide.

· Muslims are observing Ramadan when it falls during the Christmas season. It is noted that Ramadan moves all over in relation to our calendar. Considered the most venerated, blessed and spiritually beneficial month of the Islamic year. Believed to be the month in which the first verses of the Koran (the divine scripture) were revealed by Allah (God) to the prophet Muhammad. It is a month where fasting, inner reflection, devotion to God and self control is observed. In Saudi Arabia it is 100% Muslim and Islam is the only accepted religion and non-Muslim religious activities are banned in public thus no Christmas celebrations. Saudi Arabia, as the birthplace of Islam is responsible for protecting the faith’s holiest shrines at Mecca and Medina. There are approximately 1.3 billion Muslims worldwide.

· African Americans are celebrating Kwanzaa which means “first fruits” and is based on African festivals. It started in 1966 by Dr Maulana Karenga, an American academic. Celebrations over seven days from 26 December to January 1st that reflect on and reaffirm traditional African values, ancestors and culture. There are seven guiding principles reflected upon. One for each day of the festival: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, collective economics, purpose, creativity and faith. Kwanzaa is observed by more than 18 million people. Kwanzaa is not celebrated in Africa, as it’s an African-American holiday.

· In Hong Kong the festival of a Ta Chiu is held (a Taoist festival of peace and renewal) held on 27 December each year. Participants summon all their gods and ghosts of their ancestors so that the collective power will renew their lives and fulfill wishes for the coming year. At the end of the festival, priests read aloud the names of every person living in their area. Then they attach the list of names to a paper horse and set it aflame, letting the smoke carry the names up into the heavens to reach the Gods so they will remember them.

· In Japan no official celebrations of Christmas as less than 1% of the population is Christian. The major religion in Japan is Buddhism and Shinto. December in Japan is a time for preparing for their most celebrated day of the year “New Year’s Day”. People prepare by thoroughly cleaning their houses on new year’s eve then adding special decorations. People dress in their finest clothes often being traditional Japanese kimonos. A tradition is for the father of the house to be followed by all the family as he marches throughout the house driving away evil spirits. Custom is for the father to throw dried beans into the corners of each room as he bids evil spirits to withdraw and good luck to enter. The family then attends the Shinto Shrine where they clap hands to get the attention of the “Gods” and request good fortune. People send new year’s day cards like people send Christmas cards in west. There are 376 million Buddhist world-wide and 4 million Shinto world-wide.

· The indigenous people of Australia, the Aborigines, being one the oldest cultures and people on earth, do not celebrate Christmas (even though Australia is largely a Christian country widely celebrating Christmas). The Aborigines have their own rich and honored culture in particular the “Dreamtime” storytelling which is an integral part of their life. It plays a vital role in educating children with stories of history, culture, the land and their people. Stories which have been handed down from one generation to the next over thousands of years. December celebrations include in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Yolngu Aboriginal people who observe the last season of their six-season cycle. Gudjewg, the wet season which begins in late December. There are less than 500,000 Aborigines in Australia today.

Patrick Omari asked:

In the sensible world of soccer there is nothing quite like scoring a goal. English football is almost unique in the world of sport in that its currency, the goal, has such a high value. With so many games decided by just a single goal it comes as no surprise that to score comes as such a relief and is met with such enthusiasm. Many players celebrate wildly after scoring, and some even plan their celebrations in advance. Many of these goal celebrations have entered the national psyche and become embedded in the culture of our national game. In this article I will look at some of the most memorable goal celebrations in football.

There will always be the standard celebrations, such as the airplane or running to the corner flag and knee sliding, but what really stick out are the celebrations made famous by a particular player. In the 90s German striker Jurgen Klinsmann joined Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Klinsmann was known internationally for his success with the German national team and for being a top goalscorer and notorious diver. When he scored on his debut the forward mocked those who had called him a diver by performing his own unique celebration and diving to the turf, sliding along the grass on his stomach. The celebration quickly caught on and can be seen copied everywhere, from grass roots right up to the highest level. A good one to try if the ground is especially wet.

Another classic that will always stick in the memory, even if has not been mimicked, is the celebration by Marco Tardelli in the 1982 World Cup final. After scoring from for Italy from the edge of the box he ran to the touchline completely overwhelmed in the moment. Ecstatic and screaming his own name this celebration shows just how much the World Cup means to these players and has since become an iconic image for the competition.

Another celebration that gained notoriety in the Premiership was brought in by a foreign player. When Fabrizio Ravanelli signed for Middlesbrough the footballing world was left somewhat surprised. What wasn’t surprising, however, was that he would go on to score many goals for the club during his stay. His goals would always be celebrated with him pulling his shirt over his head and running with his arms outstretched. The celebration reached legendary status and was copied worldwide after Ravanelli started using it.

Of course, not every celebration must be wild and over the top. One of the greatest England strikers of all time, Alan Shearer, had his own more restrained celebration. He would run to the corner with his right arm raised and palm open. It became a signature celebration and one that the world of football would see many times over an illustrious career.

Goal celebrations can sometimes be entertaining as the game itself and supporters are keen to attach themselves to a move associated with their top goalscorer. There are bound to be many crazy goal celebrations to come and long may it continue, just make sure the goal is worth it before doing seven backflips afterwards.

Celebrities! Love them or **** them, but they’re everywhere. Every time you turn on the television you find celebrity news, and every time you go on the Internet you’re stuck with celebrity pictures – either the celebrity itself or his or her baby. Something that this, that, or the other celebrity has done has made the news, yet again.

There are also a lot of questions as to whether some of these people are actually ‘celebrities’ at all. People like Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie are mostly famous for being famous, and people like Donald Trump are not really ‘celebrities’ in the sense that he isn’t an actor or singer. Without considering things that way, however, and by just looking at who’s on the news, in the papers and magazines, and on the Internet, the list below encompasses the people that most of society judges as the 10 most annoying celebrities.

1. Paris Hilton

2. Nicole Richie

3. Ashlee Simpson

4. Avril Lavigne

5. Carrot Top

6. Tom Green

7. Kevin Federline

8. Britney Spears

9. Michael Jackson

10. Donald Trump

The only problem with this list is that there are plenty more where that came from. Many, many Websites exist where there are long lists of celebrities and other famous people who are found by a lot of the ‘normal’ people out there to be very irritating.

If the idea of celebrity news and celebrity pictures has got you down, there are ways to vent your frustrations. Websites exist that allow you to vote for the most annoying person. These include celebrities, but they also include other ‘famous’ people – or infamous people – like Osama bin Laden and others. If a person gets enough votes he or she is on the most annoying list, and you can also vote for people who are least annoying to add to that list, as well. The top 100 or less are usually listed on these types of sites.

Some of them offer celebrity pictures and celebrity news but most of them don’t because those are the things that the people who vote there are trying to get away from. No matter who you are or which celebrity you like (if any), there are people who find the people you like very irritating. There are arguments between both friends and enemies about celebrity news and celebrity pictures, whether they think they’re annoying or not.

People of all ages enjoy celebrity antics and behavior. Even if we **** to watch the latest drama out of Hollywood, it is still hard to turn away when the latest blurb pops up on the evening news. Some of us get a quick fix of the latest starlet drama via entertainment news programs, and others simply scan the headlines at the grocery story.

Still others area more diehard fans and they may frequent celebrity websites or subscribe to magazines that specialize in the latest gossip. However you get your fix of what the Hollywood girls are wearing (or not wearing!) these days, there is a way you probably haven’t heard of – online paper dolls.

Celebrity Dolls?

Many celebrity watchers, or devoted non-watchers who keep up with the gossip to prove how non-interested they are, are realizing what a lot of teenage girls have known for years. Paper dolls have moved online and they have gotten much more interesting. The paper dolls of old are long gone, and online paper dolls have styles you wouldn’t even think possible.

Most of these websites, such as TheDollPalace.com, are devoted to girl dress up games, and some of the most popular of these are celebrity dress up games. Some of the most prominent stars on television and movies have been used as a model for a base doll, much like an online Barbie, and you can spend hours dressing your favorite Hollywood starlet. There are outfits appropriate for every day or adoption wear right on up to the Academy Awards.

More on Celebrities

The girl dress up is not the only celebrity item on these sites by any means. If you really know your celebs, you can take a stab at various contests that run through the site. For example, a great many dolls have already been created showing starlets in their award show finery. All you have to do is figure out which doll belongs to which star. There are also occasional articles that pertain to celebrity gossip or news items that can be a fun way to kill time every now and again.

Your Celebrity Wardrobe

Even if you’re not celebrity obsessed, you might be interested in looking a bit more polished. Most celebrities spend a great deal of time on their look and consult a stylist for major wardrobe purchases or hair style changes (with one notable exception.) You may not be able to afford a stylist, but you can track what the celebrities are wearing and build your own outfits right on the site.

Try out the latest looks of the season on a doll of your choosing to see if you can piece everything together and come up with something truly fashionable, yet uniquely you at the same time. After all, imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but nobody wants to become a Hollywood clone.

Hollywood Celebrity Photos Take Gossip to Another Level

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Hollywood celebrities have been an obsession for America and the rest of the world ever since the motion picture industry made its home in these Southern California hills. Hollywood celebrity photos are big business these days, and despite some protests that the paparazzi take it too far, most celebrities know that the interest of these photographers keeps their careers going strong. Celebrity news is also big business, but these stories can seem dry and even unbelievable if there isn’t some sort of photos that go along with them to help tell the tale.

Some of the most popular Hollywood celebrity photos are of celebrity couples, because their relationships are so tempestuous that they can’t help but peak our interests. Celebrity news often tracks the budding relationships, the soaring romances, the dramatic arguments, the alleged affairs and the bitter breakups that ensue. People just can’t seem to get enough of this stuff, as the continued success of tabloid news magazines, television shows and web sites proves. The scandal of Hollywood celebrities and their relationships gone wrong is always at the forefront of news, covering the pages of both serious newspapers and gossip rags that line the shelves of newsstands and grocery stores.

While the photographic obsession with Hollywood celebrities is a new phenomenon, the idea of people obsessing over famous individuals in this way is something that goes back for centuries. People used to spread celebrity news about royals and socialites, and while the pictures weren’t always there to prove it the power of the pen was just as strong. We now have Hollywood celebrity photos, though, to provide unequivocal proof of the scandals and everyday lives of our favorite celebrities.

Celebrity news, gossip and photos can be found in magazines, on the radio, on the television screen and online. Gossip is a great way to take a break from more serious news; as long as people remember not to take it too seriously.

Brian Worley asked:

Are you wanting to shed a few of those unwanted pounds before the summer vacation, and considering one of the many celebrity fad diets that are constantly being advertised on TV and Magazines on the market.

Losing weight affects everyone differently, and there are a lot of positive changes once a person experience weight loss.

Apart from avoiding health problems such as diabetes and even heart attacks, losing weight could simply be an overall feeling of well-being and self esteem,

For whatever reason, the thought of losing weight may sound like a good idea. However, the thought of the discipline and sacrifice required to give up favourite foods, or making the effort to exercise, after a busy work day is, for many, just a ‘step to far’

It is for this reason why so many people are searching for celebrity fad diets that offer a quick and easy solution to shedding those extra pounds without the pain and sacrifice required

Celebrities have their own pressures, particularly female celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, to look beautiful; they also are expected to have perfect bodies. But I doubt that they achieve this perfection on a cabbage soup diet?

There are plenty of popular celebrity diets that are guaranteed to backfire. This is because these quick fixes instilled in certain diet plans are, in reality, are not efficient at all, because they do not employ the right principle and the right attitude in losing weight.

These quick weight loss diet plans are known as fad diets because that is exactly what they are, just a fad. In time, when fashion is over and popularity wanes, people realize that the celebrity fad diet they depended on is not so reliable after all, and they find they are back to square one, or even worse. Have gained weight!

Scientific research has shown that these celebrity fad diets do not prove that any individual is losing unwanted excess fat. It is mostly water that is lost with following celebrity fad diets or rapid weight loss practices. Water lost is regained very quickly. So there is actually zero net weight lost after all.

So one should not be foolish enough to be so gullible with the advertising of certain celebrity fad diets out there in the market; especially those which claim to aid losing a whopping amount of fat in a short time.

Each and everyone’s body metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans.   Plus, exercise programs must be suitable to one’s body, as many people are not able to exercise as rigorously as others can.

All in all, discipline and consistency is still the best practice and the key to a rapid weight loss success.

Before entering into any celebrity fad diet, consider first, healthy light dieting combined with some form of workout.

The right amount of exercise applied in a regular way everyday will result in faster weight loss than many popular Hollywood fad diets on offer.

Information contained in this article is not meant to replace professional advice. Always check with your physician before starting any weight loss or exercise program.

Celebrities are always in the public eye whether they like it or not. It is as if their lives are always in the limelight where the public scrutinizes their every move and participates in each aspect of their lives, no matter how private and personal the occasion it may be. A celebrity marriage makes it to the headlines without any effort and a celebrity divorce can create even more ripples in tinsel town. It is therefore necessary for the celebrity couple to take their steps very carefully before they take any crucial decisions about their lives. So in case of a divorce it is advisable and practical to appoint a celebrity divorce lawyer to handle the case with the necessary expertise.

A celebrity divorce lawyer is competent enough to handle the attention that the case is destined to receive. A lawyer with lesser expertise would find himself with the media attention and may get diverted from the case. A celebrity lawyer is however accustomed to the scenario through his previous experience with similar cases and is also trained to handle the situation in a competent manner. A celebrity who is facing a trying time in the form of a divorce would want someone to handle the media and manage the legalities with the minimum hassle. In this case a celebrity divorce lawyer will be the ideal option to fight the case on the celebrity’s behalf. The lawyer will be the professionally qualified individual who can work out any kind legal loopholes and ensure a justifiable deal for his client.

A celebrity divorce lawyer is well aware of the fact that the case he is handling is a high profile case and thus any mistake or wrong move on his part could have serious implications for his future career. It also ensures that the lawyer will be additionally careful before deciding on a plan of action and building up the case for his client. A divorce also involves many issues like the division of financial assets and a sensitive issue like child custody. In this scenario a celebrity divorce lawyer is well aware that the media and the general public will have their eyes set on every aspect of the case and the decisions taken will also affect the public’s perception of the celebrity and the lawyer handling the case. It is matter of great pride and prestige for the celebrity divorce lawyer if he can manage to get his client a favorable decision and deal.

A celebrity divorce lawyer also gets to share the limelight as long as he is dealing with a celebrity couple. It is his chance to prove himself to the public and the media and this induces him to give his best shot. Unlike other divorce cases, a celebrity divorce is bound to be talked about for many years to come and hence the celebrity divorce lawyer can make his mark by getting his client a fair deal. Hence hiring the professional services of a celebrity divorce lawyer seems to be a winning situation for all involved in the case.

Will Celebrity Weight Loss Work for You?

Terry Sandhu asked:

We live in a world which is based on celebrity, and we often fall for celebrity weight loss methods. We are obsessed by the way celebrities live and look. We look at them with envy, often wishing that we could be like them.

Beautiful bodies appear on magazine covers and advertisements. We buy these magazines and advertised products, thinking that we may pick up methods to improve our lives. We want to wear what these people wear and we want to look like these people look. Celebrities are big business, and the key term is ‘business’.

Celebrity weight loss for the majority of us is an illusion. Everything is glossed up, but the reality never lives up to the hype that we all too often fall for.

Most celebrities crave two things, which are money and fame, and they will do whatever it takes to get both. The face on a cover with a lovely smile and twinkling eyes isn’t looking at you. It is looking at a camera, it doesn’t know who you are and it doesn’t care.

For many people celebrities have become role models, and when they something we listen. When they say that they have lost weight in a particular way, we follow what they did. Most of the time we don’t get the same results. We don’t think that these celebrities are endorsing or promoting products, or that their lifestyles enable them to to lose weight much easier than the rest of us.

Large companies pay huge sums of cash to celebrities to promote their products? They do so in the hope that the people will buy these products. Because our culture is celebrity driven, we oblige.

In all honesty a lot of the methods celebrities use for losing weight isn’t practical for the rest of us. Sometimes celebrities do one thing and tell us another. Anything to make you buy a product.

These people have other people that do things for them:

They have their kids picked up from school

They have maids that clean their homes

They have people to cook for them

They have well equipped home gyms

They have personal trainers

They can afford to buy the best food

They can afford to buy supplements

They have access to the best private healthcare.

They have money for weight loss surgery.

How much of these benefits do you have? Now do you think that you can lose weight like a celebrity? We need to find ways to lose weight which are going to suit our lifestles and keep away from the mad world of the celebrity.

Losing weight is not a hard concept to accept once we stop looking for a quick or easy fix. Understand that it will take time and understand that as long as you stick to your weight loss plan,it will happen for you.

It’s all about what is going to work for you, not about what is working for someone else. Two people can do exactly the same things trying to lose weight, but each can have very different results.

The bottom line is that you need to burn more calories than you consume. You can consume less calories or you can do more exercise, and there is not much more to weight loss than this.

So in conclusion, will celebrity weight loss work for you? The chances are that it probably will not.

Gossip Gluttons: How We Fell in Love With Celebrities

Paul McIndoe asked:

David Beckham’s latest hair cut; Russell Brand’s latest conquest; Paris Hilton’s most recent bout of bad behaviour - it’s impossible to turn on the TV or open a newspaper without being bombarded by rumours, hearsay and the occasional fact about celebrities. But why do we have such a fascination with fame, to the point where we’re more interested in the lives of others than our own friends and family?

Stories that would otherwise be of no interest to us seem to take on massive importance as soon as the subject matter is a pop-star or famous actor; “John Smith’s New Lover” doesn’t raise much interest, but substitute “John Smith” for Jennifer Aniston or George Clooney and suddenly it’s a front page news story that everybody wants to read.

One of the reasons for our love affair with celebrities is that we invariably perceive their lives to be more interesting and eventful than our own. The typical ‘A’ list celebrity may own a private jet, several plush properties in various desirable locations around the world and have a garage full of sports cars while rubbing shoulders with other big names, and it is this so called “celebrity high life” which so many people are fascinated by and aspire to.

But there also seems to be an element of jealousy involved, and thus gossip magazines seem to revel in the misfortunes of celebrities - delighting in highlighting their bad fashion tastes, wrinkles or cosmetic surgery.

Celebrity culture manifests itself in through many forms of media; celebrity news magazines, gossip rags, tabloids, TV and radio interviews, internet forums, and of course in day-to-day conversation amongst ourselves and whilst modern communication has facilitated the propagation of gossip on a far greater and quicker scale than ever before, the culture of celebrity worship has a long history.

Thousands of years ago, fame was gained through leadership, bravery in battle, or a sporting deed. Some of the first celebrities were Greek Olympic champions, and were given the equivalent of today’s red carpet treatment. TV was a long way off from being invented, but the equivalent notoriety was gained via commissioning hymns of praise to be written about them by famous poets, which would then be performed in their honour. Later in history, when theatre became the popular mass media, actors and playwrights such as Shakespeare were the vehicles for celebrity status.

A huge proportion of media is given over to the worship of celebrities, and for the foreseeable future, it seems this will continue to be the case, as our love affair with gossip shows no signs of ending any time soon.

Wallpapers have evolved in meaning during the past couple of decades. In the past, wallpapers refer to a sticky big paper with various patterns that can be applied on walls in lieu of paint. Today, wallpapers refer to the image found on the desktop of a computer.

Although people can easily scan and upload a photo to serve as their desktop wallpapers, many tech-savvy individuals have found ways to adorn their computer screens with new and cool wallpapers. People no longer are contented with typical wallpapers like classic artworks, modern digital art, and sports cars.

Perhaps one of the more popular types of wallpapers are celebrity wallpapers. Celebrities have become icons in today’s society. Most people want to act like them, look them, and of course, be with them. It is therefore not surprising that wallpapers containing pictures of celebrities have become a hit among many Internet users.

Female celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, and Jessica Alba have also become staples in most wallpapers. The temptation of seeing a beautiful celebrity like Jolie and Alba has encouraged many to make use of celebrity wallpapers for their desktop background. Of course, it is more visually appealing to make use of celebrity wallpapers compared to using animals or complex artwork, for instance.

Proof of the popularity of these celebrity wallpapers is the number of websites offering free celebrity wallpapers. In the past, Computer users had to make do with pixilated and poor quality pictures of celebrities for their wallpapers. There were also instances when computer users scanned magazines where pictures of their favorite celebrities were published. There were not enough options for computer users in getting the favorite celebrity wallpapers.

A lot of things have changed in recent years. For one, it is a lot easy for computer users to get a wallpaper of their favorite celebrities. All they have to do is to go to an online search engine, type in the keyword “female celebrity wallpaper” and within seconds they will be provided with a list of websites offering wallpapers of celebrities.

The good part is that there is a comprehensive listing of celebrities that have wallpapers. There’s a good chance that your favorite celebrity is included in the list. Your favorite movie or TV actress is sure to have their own wallpapers.

Try to go online now and visit a number of celebrity wallpaper websites, and spice up your desktop within seconds.
